Victron Orion-Tr Smart 12/12-30A (360W) Non-isolated DC-DC charger, 5 Year Warranty. The Orion-Tr Smart DC-DC charger is a professional DC to DC adaptive 3-stage charger with built-in Bluetooth. For use in dual battery systems in vehicles or on boats where the alternator and the start battery are used to charge the service battery. The unit can be monitored and programmed via Bluetooth and can be remotely controlled via a remote on/off switch.

The Orion Tr-Smart charger can be used in 12V or 24V systems and is suitable for both lead acid and lithium batteries. Models are available up to 400W and unlimited multiple units can be connected in parallel to increase output power. Suitable for high temperatures up to 55°C with a full rated output up to 40°C.

Bluetooth Smart enabled:

Any Bluetooth enabled smart phone, tablet or other device can be used to monitor, to change settings and to update the charger when new software features become available.

Fully programmable:

Battery charge algorithm (configurable) or fixed output.
Smart alternator compatibility: engine running detection mechanism.

Adaptive 3-stage charge algorithm: bulk – absorption – float:

For lead acid batteries it is important that during shallow discharges the absorption time is kept short in order to prevent overcharging of the battery. After a deep discharge the absorption time is automatically increased to make sure that the battery is completely recharged.
For lithium batteries absorption time is fixed, default 2 hours.
Alternatively, a fixed output voltage can be chosen.

Remote on-off

A remote on/off switch or relay contact can be connected to a two-pole connector. Alternatively, the H terminal (right) of the two-pole connector can be switched to battery plus, or the L terminal (left) of the two pole connector can be switched to battery minus (or the chassis of a vehicle, for example).

All models are short circuit proof and can be paralleled to increase output current:

An unlimited number of units can be connected in parallel.

High temperature protected:

The output current will reduce at high ambient temperature.

IP43 protection:

When installed with the screw terminals oriented downwards.

Screw terminals:

No special tools needed for installation.

Isolated DC to DC Chargers Vs Non-Isolated DC to DC Chargers:

An isolated DC to DC charger has one negative connection for each battery and there is no internal connection between the negatives. They are required for systems that need to be isolated which could be for a number of reasons including;

Limiting corrosion (Typically marine applications).
Preventing noise on one battery system from effecting the other battery system.

For systems that do not require isolation - either unit can be used, but the non-isolated requires one less wire to be installed.
In automotive systems, the negative of both batteries is typically connected to the chassis of the vehicle. This is a non-isolated system, therefore either unit will be suitable.

Great product, not all the features I expected Review by Peter Glorie

I bought the Victron Orion 12/12-30 charger for the back of my ute to charge the auxillary Lifepo4 battery. Overall the charger works well, including the engine on detection and battery charging. The app is also good to configure the charger settings. However, the app is fairly limited. I expected a reading of the charging amps. Only voltage of the input and output are displayed. The app also has a bug in that the charging state shown is often "off" when clearly the charger is charging.

I noticed that the Victron DC to DC chargers do not have a solar regulator?
Although many competitors include a built solar regulator in their chargers, Victron have chosen to keep this separate. The advantage of this separation is:
1. The DC to DC charger can remain cheaper
2. Solar can be charging into the battery system simultaneously with the on-board vehicle charging
3. You can purchase the correct solar regulator to match your solar panels, which will provide the best efficiency for solar charging

What is meant by the term "Smart" DC to DC Charger?

The "Smart" means that you can connect your Bluetooth device (Smartphone) to the Victron Charger via the Victron Connect APP. This allows monitoring and setting changes easily and it's a unique feature to Victron energy systems.

The VictronConnect App is available in App Store, Google Play, Mac app and Download for Windows.
Do the dimensions include the bracket? If not, what are the dimensions including the bracket?

As the bracket is a required part of the charger, it is included in the dimensions.
What is the waterproof rating and is it safe to mount this under the bonnet or no the front of the car?

These units have an IP43 rating.

These would not be recommend to install under the bonnet of the car, as they are only speced to a max operating temperature of 55 degrees c.
